Can you tell I have new toys?
So I got a scanner from Aliexpress. It’s not as cheap as I hoped them to be, but cheap enough for its purpose anyway: a portable scanner. You might be wondering, well, JC, what the hell would you need a portable scanner for?
Well, textures.
I also got a new 85mm lens that has a decent f1.8 aperture. It’s decent, it’s autofocus, it does the job for sleuth-photowalking. I can aim the cam from my middle and still get decent shots. So during lunch times, I’ve gone around, looking for interesting bits and capturing, but aside from the action, I thought that the most interesting part of any place is the textures that came with it – that’s right: the feel of the walls, the dots on the paints, the stickers that are slightly frayed, the posters that have seen better days. When you scan them, they retain most of the interesting bits, and they may for better textures than getting them from a digital camera.
Textures give life to places – they give you the additional visual to sometimes even feel like you’re there. Which is exactly what I was hoping to bring you.
I was itching to put together something quick and (somewhat) creative, so here’s a quick magazine of what a day around Britomart looks like – this interesting hub area near our office. I’ve put a google maps area so you can view it yourself if in case you’re keen to take a look.
